Star Lake Board
The Star Lake Board includes 15 members selected to assure breadth of representation, legislative accountabilty, and integration of relevent governmental units. Three public members are appointed by the speaker of the house, one representing county government, one representing city government, and one representing an organization that promotes clean lakes and rivers. Similarly, three public members representing the same interests noted above are appointed by the Senate Committee on Rules and Administration. In addition, one member of the Star Lake Board is appointed by each of the following agencies: the Commission of the Department of Natural Resouces, the Commissioner of the Pollution Control Agency, the Chair of the Board of Soil and Water Resources, and the Indian Affairs Council. These ten members serve at the pleasure of the respective appointing bodies. The final five board members are elected by the appointed members from a pool of public applicants representing associations that have either achieved a Star Lake or Star River designation are are eligible to do so. These five elected members serve staggered, three year terms and are eligible for reappointment at the conclusion of their term.

| Board Responsibilities
Specifically, the responsibilites of the Star Lake Board include:
- Developing and filing articles of incorporation to become established as a nonprofit orporation
- developing bylaws
- submitting required materials for designation as a 501(C)3 tax-exempt organization
- hiring necessary staff
- securing facilities and resources as required
- including procedures for promoting the program and selecting award recipients
- conducting all business in accordance with MN Statute 317A (for nonprofit corporations
